New kid ?
New boss in town? Somebody owe somebody money? New kid have to prove he's part of the gang? Five people shot in the Tenderloin, one dead SFGATE
And let's think about how someone could escape across a very long bridge with police in pursuit... well, I suppose if they blocked off the bridge, there would be lots of hostages and some idiots with guns. But then, there's the issue of "losing" the car by the (ahem) Oakland police... Homeland Security? You can't have lots of drug cash floating around without mayhem and corruption. How many replays of the Tenderloin shooting/escape to Oakland/Richmond have we seen?

SUV traveling west on Turk Street from Taylor fired numerous shots at a
group of people standing near the corner at 105 Turk Street. Six people

Captain's Comments:
On Monday evening at approximately 10:20 PM on the corner of Turk and
Taylor six people loitering in the area were shot one receiving a fatal
wound and the five others receiving non-life-threatening wounds. The
perpetrators and the victims appear to live outside of our neighborhood.
I can report that his investigation is being very actively pursued and
proud to say that many residents have come forward to assist your
Officers in solving this case. Many residents especially the elderly
have expressed concern for their safety and Tenderloin Station has been
conducting safety presentations for them. I cannot at this time tell
you any more about this incident. As many of you know the Tenderloin is
a Violence Reduction Zone which means that every day the district is
saturated with Police Officers working to make your neighborhood safe.
On the evening of this tragic shooting two Operations were being
conducted in the area. One was a STOP Program being run by the Traffic
Unit’s Motorcycle Officers, during this operation many arrests were made
and numerous vehicle citations issued. Also during a traffic stop two
individuals were arrested for being in possession of a handgun. Gang
Task Force (GTF) was also in our District and an hour before the
shooting observed on the corner of Turk and Taylor Street a 14 year old
who was acting suspicious. The young boy ran when approached by the
officers. After a two block foot chase he was apprehended and found in
possession of a firearm, which he told the GTF Officers he was intending
to use the gun to shoot any rival gang member he came upon in our
neighborhood. Two hours before this violent attack on our street your
Tenderloin Officer responded to the area of Eddy and Taylor on a report
of a wide man with two knives had just stabbed someone. With the help
of several residents and merchants in the area the violent man was
arrested fleeing towards Taylor and Turk Street by your Officers and the
two knives seized. Though violence does rear its ugly head in our
neighborhood you can be proud that your Police Department is working
constantly to make your streets safer and that many of your fellow
residents have made brave contributions in that great effort.

Captain's Comments:
I am glad to report that the murders that shot six people on Turk and
Taylor Street killing one female on February 23, 2009 were arrested in
Oakland this week by your Police Department. This means of the six
homicides that have occurred since January of last year to present all
the killers have been arrested. The support of our community aided the
police in bringing about this positive result and making our streets
safer by not allowing these killers to roam at large in our
neighborhood.
