Nonprofit Windowdressing

Living in a city full of nonprofits, nonprofit workers, and having worked in a foundation and a few nonprofits has brought me to a few conclusions: While religion may be the opiate of the masses, the religion of the wealthy is money. Nonprofits allow the the wealthy and the have's to feel better when they return to their comfortable enclaves (and take a tax write-off to boot!)

The proliferation of nonprofits is a sign of an uncivil and unjust society (why else would they be necessary?) Nonprofits are the window-dressing of an underlying culture of greed, where it's me first, and some pocket change for you (especially if there's a tax break involved). Foundations allow the wealthy to send their tax write-offs to pet projects, rather than giving it to the government to distribute, and corporations can continue with their ruthlessness, because anything else is the work of their tax-exempt nonprofit division.
