Double-parked Latte

This morning at 11 a.m. (Sunday), there were THREE cars double-parked in the "coffee zone." This is a stretch on Polk Street just downhill from Russian Hill where all the late 20's, early 30's yuppies hang out in the cafes.

Excuse me, DOUBLE-PARKED to pick up coffee on a Sunday morning ? Someone has this confused with suburbia, where THERE ARE drive-up Starbucks. Soon enough, I suppose this sea of white faces inhabiting this hill will pair off, produce some offspring, and move to the suburbs to give their progeny a square patch of grass to crawl on. But for now, they're double-parking on Polk. I'm not sure whether I'm more annoyed by them or the crackheads. Does this make me a misanthrope?

Slumlords

I looked at this studio near Golden Gate Park. The building looked a little crusty, and while I was standing there (5pm), a guy who looked like he crawled out of the park walked up and peed on a tree. Later, another woman walked by who was munching on some food she probably dumpster-dived from the nearby restaurants, on her way back to camp in the park.

I stopped by during their exceedingly brief open house (1/2 hr?). A 20-something Asian woman in sequin-decorated, high-heel sandals was getting ready to jump back into her BMW when I inquired. She unlocked everything and took me to what looked like a former back porch of a house, with odd patches of wallpaper interrupting the usual 20 coats of rental-unit paint.

This place wanted a 2 year lease agreement !! Oh ya, I want to sign up for two years with this slumlord ?! I asked. "Oh, because whenever a tenant leaves we have to clean and paint -- it cost so much money. It's negotiable."

Grills

Well, I've certainly been seeing alot more gold "grills" in my neighborhood. When I was younger, I thought it would be cool to have a single gold rim, but the rappers have taken this thing over the top, with the full metal face.

I suppose if they are removable and brush their teeth, it's not as permanent as a tattoo.
